Each ring will pass on broadband-enabled access from one point to another point that is in each district or city. This access will support fiber optic network that has a high speed. Its capacity of 300 Gbps to 1000 Gbps in the area.
Palapa Ring was targeted to be completed in 2009, but later changed to the year 2011. However, various issues, including funding issues affecting the completion time of construction. A number of companies who were originally members of the consortium who are interested in the construction of the fiber optic network is also one backwards. Then had also targeted the construction of the Palapa Ring to be completed in 2012. Palapa Ring to Ring 10 is rated as a connection which was considered unattractive business (Hatta, 2011). Do not stop there, also reportedly Palapa Ring project will be completed in 2014 (Word & Kurniawan, 2011). Telecom back bone centered in Java, but is now expanding to other islands such as Sumatra, Kalimantan and Bali. Back bone needed for transmission equipment in a telecommunication network. Palapa Ring project is expected to provide the back bone for the purposes of telecommunications bandwidth to all parts of Indonesia (Hartono, 2011). While the use of fiber optic cable with all the advantages are also considered suitable as a back bone.
Palapa Ring Infrastructure is considered as a symbol of unity and oneness. Palapa Ring is also seen as an icon of national ICT resurrection. This infrastructure could be significantly higher if done continuously developing local content which contains the nation's cultural context.
