Types of Computer Networks

In general, a computer network is divided into three types of networks:
1. Local Area Network (LAN)
A LAN is a network that is limited by a relatively small area, generally bounded by the area of the environment, such as an office in a building, or of each room at a school. Usually the distance between nodes is not more than about 200 m.
2 Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)
A MAN, usually covers a larger area than a LAN, for example, between buildings in an area (such as provincial region or state). In this case, the network connects several small tissue pieces into a larger area of the environment, for example as follows: a network of several branch offices of a bank in a large city that is connected to each other.
3. Wide Area Network (WAN)
Wide Area Network (WAN) is a network that usually uses wireless media, means of satellite or fiber optic cable, because of the wider scope, covering not just one city or between cities in the region, but began reaching the area / territory authorities of other countries.
For example, the office computer network City Bank in Indonesia or that exist in other countries, which are interconnected, network ATM Master Card, Visa Card or Cirrus are spread throughout the world and others.
WAN is usually more complicated and highly complex when compared to LAN or MAN. Using many means to connect between LAN and WAN into global communication like the internet, however the LAN, MAN and WAN is not much different in some respects, only the scope of the area is just a different one in the other.
The values contained in the table above, is not an absolute value for the distance that connects between computers, because the distance can be shorter depending on the conditions of the area of a region.
