Mio GPS Gadget Tech Reach Indonesian Market


  Manufacturer of the Mio Global Positioning System navigation devices (GPS) from Taiwan began to explore the Indonesian market. As a first step, the six models of GPS devices has been prepared.
Six models of the device are divided into three categories, namely car navigation (C230 and C320), navigation plus PDA (P360 and P560) and navigation plus PDA Phone (A702 and A501). This statement was made in a press conference at the ShangriLa Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday (31/01/2008).
Sonia Chan, Sales Manager Mio Technology Corporation, said digital maps for Mio Tech in collaboration with Tele Atlas. As for the distributor in Indonesia, Mio Tech with PT Kahar Duta Sarana.
General Manager of Tele Atlas Indonesia, Yo Yoe, say for car navigation device is equipped with a digital map of Java, Bali, Singapore and Malaysia. As for the other two categories plus a map of the area of Thailand.
GPS market in Indonesia in 2008 is expected to reach 60-80 thousand units. "Our target for the first year to reach a market share of 20 percent, meaning that about 12-16 thousand units," said Director of PT Kahar Duta Sarana, Kemal Toha.
From the features, any device that is introduced is called voice features and touch screen. "So when driving a car, we do not need to see the screen but enough to hear it," said Kemal.
Yo Yoe said digital maps on the device will be updated every six months. It is estimated that in 2008 it will complete digital maps for Sumatra.
Tech Mio GPS device prices range from USD 290 (car navigation category) and $ 700 (plus the navigation category PDA Phone). The use of GPS for navigation devices will not charge any credit, while for feature phones in category PDA Phone will be charged according to the operator used.
