The development of communication technology running quickly. Progress is affected by many things, among them is the supporting infrastructure. The government is building a more efficient network that can reach  all regions in Indonesia. This mega project called Palapa Ring network, optical fiber network is expected to connect all areas of the archipelago.
The main things the highlights in the development of the network is the Palapa Ring fiber-optic network itself and its influence in Indonesia. There are also other questions that arise, among others, what is the Palapa Ring network? How the principle works? What impact Palapa Ring network development to the flow of information in Indonesia? How to progress so far in Indonesia?
This optical fiber network connecting regions in Indonesia has 52,500 kilometers long and extends along the archipelago (Hatta, 2011). The analysis presented is descriptive and focuses on the development of Indonesia's Palapa Ring network and the implication that will arise.
The conclusion drawn is the development of this network should be supported to achieve a modern Indonesian society and information literacy. The network is "streamlining" Indonesia, which is expected areas difficult to reach from the outside can get the information quickly. It is also hoped that the digital divide issue could be overcome by the presence of Palapa Ring. That way, in the future Palapa Ring network will support the government's policy in the provision of communications and information more efficiently.
